Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-21

These terms are an agreement between you and Joaquin Cabrera Simoes (“we”, “us”), who operates BooksTracker, a personal finance app available as a website and as apps for iOS and Android (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a contract. You must give a real email address that you control. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.

2. Your account and its security

Two-step verification is mandatory: you sign in with a password and a second factor (an authenticator app, a passkey or a recovery code). Keep your password, your second factor and your recovery codes safe and do not share them. Tell us at once if you think someone else has access to your account. We can reset your second factor only after checking that you are the owner.

If you forget your password you can ask for a reset link by email. The link only lets you choose a new password; signing in still needs your second factor.

3. What the Service does

BooksTracker helps you keep track of your own money: accounts, cards, expenses, receipts, subscriptions, loans, investments and shared expenses with friends. It also reads receipts, which happens on your own device.

The Service is a tool for your own records. It is not financial, tax, accounting, investment or legal advice. Receipt reading, exchange rates, stock and crypto prices, closing and due dates of cards and invoices, and every calculation are provided for information and can contain errors or delays. Check what matters against the original documents. We do not execute payments, move money or connect to your bank.

3.1 Plans

The Service has a Free plan and the paid plans Plus and Pro. Each plan has its own limits (for example the number of accounts, receipts read per month and storage) and features; they are shown in “My plan” inside the app and on our website, and we may change them for the future with reasonable notice. A new account may receive a free trial of a paid plan; when it ends the account goes back to the Free plan.

If you reach a limit, or your plan ends or you cancel, nothing you already have is deleted: you can still see, edit, delete and export it. What you cannot do is add more than the limit of your plan.

4. Payments

Paid plans are bought on our website and paid through PayPal, in US dollars unless the price says otherwise. The iOS and Android apps do not sell anything: they show the plan you already have.

  • Renewal. Paid plans renew automatically every month or every year, according to what you chose, until you cancel.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in “My plan” on our website or from your PayPal account. You keep the plan until the end of the period you already paid for, then the account goes back to the Free plan. If you change from one paid plan to another, the first subscription is cancelled when the new one starts and the unused part of the period already paid is not refunded. Subscribing to a paid plan ends any free trial you had.
  • Refunds. If you ask within 7 days of the first payment for a plan, we refund it in full. A refunded payment ends the access it paid for at once. Renewals are not refunded, but you can cancel before the next one. Nothing here limits the rights you have as a consumer by law.
  • Taxes and price changes. Prices may include or exclude taxes depending on your country, as PayPal shows at checkout. If we change a price, the new price applies from your next renewal and we tell you before.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails we give you a short period to fix it; after that the account goes back to the Free plan.

5. Your data

What you enter in BooksTracker (your records, receipts, files and messages) is yours. You give us only the permission needed to store it, process it and show it to you and to the people you choose to share it with, so that the Service works. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. How we handle personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

You can export all your data at any time and delete your account from inside the app. Deleting the account deletes your data (see the Privacy Policy for the details and the short delay for backups).

Encrypted backups. If you turn on automatic backups, the app encrypts them on your device with a passphrase that only you know and saves them where you choose: a file on your device, your own iCloud Drive or your own Google Drive. We cannot read them and we cannot recover your passphrase: if you lose it, those backups cannot be opened. Keep it safe.

6. Shared features

If you add friends, chat or share expenses, the people involved see what you share with them. Do not send illegal, abusive or harassing content. You can remove friends and delete your messages from inside the app.

7. Acceptable use

You must not: break the law with the Service; try to break into other accounts, the servers or the Service’s security; overload it with automated requests beyond what your plan’s API allows; copy or resell the Service; upload malware or content you have no right to; or use the Service to launder money or to deceive others. API keys are for your own use and count against your plan’s limits.

We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the Service or other users at risk. When that is reasonable we will tell you first and let you export your data.

8. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available but we do not promise it will never be interrupted or free of errors; we may do maintenance, and third parties we depend on (hosting, mail, payments, notification services, price and exchange-rate sources) can fail. We may add, change or remove features; if we remove something that you pay for in a way that matters, we will tell you and you can cancel and ask for a proportional refund.

9. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We can end the agreement and close your account for the reasons in section 7, or if we stop offering the Service, with notice whenever possible. Sections that by their nature must continue (for example liability and governing law) continue after the end.

10. Liability

The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential damages, loss of profit, or decisions you make based on what the Service shows, and our total liability to you for anything related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event, or USD 50 if you paid nothing. This does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law, nor your rights as a consumer.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If the change matters we will tell you by email or inside the app before it applies. If you keep using the Service after that date you accept the new terms; if you do not accept them, you can delete your account.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Uruguay and the courts of Montevideo are competent, without removing the mandatory consumer-protection rights of the place where you live, which keep applying to you. Before going to court, please write to us so we can try to solve it.

13. Contact
